Commercial Insights & Strategy Analyst

The purpose of the role is to help drive fact based & relevant commercial insights to facilitate and influence strategic decisions across our brands. This role will support the Strategic Finance Manager in the evaluation of business performance as well as contribute to targeted initiatives providing business insights to help business partners across the organization make better decisions. The Commercial Insights & Strategic Analyst should have the ability to communicate results clearly and be comfortable teaming across multiple functions to gain collective insights.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Build and foster a solid business partnership with the Divisions and all internal and external departments and stakeholders to drive business decisions that maximize our sales values 
  • Responsible for generating, integrating, and translating insights and analytics into growth opportunities that shape decisions and drive organizational action 
  • Assist in the strategic alignment between marketing, divisional finance, and other areas of the business 
  • Ability to understand market dynamics and be able to clearly articulate strategic priorities for the business from both a finance & commercial perspective 
  • Ability to confidently interact with non-finance departments, understanding their key requirements and tailoring financial data to satisfy these requirements 
  • Stay abreast of emerging industry trends inclusive of competitor movements and assess their potential impact on our business strategies. 
  • Champion the development and implementation of research and analytics approaches and methods that are innovative and examples of industry best practices  
  • Support the Strategic Finance Manager in the Edrington USA planning cycle, including the 5-year planning process and monthly/quarterly S&OP forecasting processes 
  • Work with Strategic Finance Manager to develop and monitor monthly results, analyse key business & financial KPIs, uncover trends and assess current / future business & financial risks and opportunities to drive both top line and bottom line performance 
  • Collate research into meaningful presentations deliverable to senior decision makers for use throughout various strategic meetings  
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve processes and create value; identify issues and provide recommendations for enhancements 
  • Work cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, and Marketing teams in identifying support requirements across a broad range of projects 
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and deep dives to support special projects and strategic initiatives 
  • Deliver and further develop a regular cadence of competitive data and associated insights to support decision-making across the organization 
  • Leverage data and systems to produce insights across the value chain that lead to new business processes and opportunities 
  • Produce relevant tutorials on key systems that can be distributed across all levels of the organization 

Knowledge, Skills & Core Competencies Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Concentration in technical field such as finance, economics, computer science, statistics, or engineering is preferred 
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a finance role with heavy use of financial systems 
  • Experience in Spirits/adult beverage industry preferred but not required 
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is a must 
  • Experience with databases and systems is desirable 
  • Proficiency with SQL and VBA is a plus 
  • Need to have a strong working knowledge of business analysis using multiple data sources 
  • Ability to dig into the data to uncover the drivers and “whys” behind the results 
  • Knowledge of market dynamics and capacity to tell a clear story to the organization 
  • Proven analytical skills and learning agility to coach and train colleagues across multiple functions required 
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic and financial analysis, driving insights to action, development of models and building presentations 
  • A strategic thinker with strong organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Data driven and goal oriented, measuring success both quantitatively and qualitatively, and understanding the importance of both 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential 
  • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy 
  • Ability to execute on today's challenges while maintaining a forward-thinking mindset  
  • Ability to independently drive projects; motivated to learn all aspects of our business
